Digital Art or Photography?

Image

The above photograph is the result of merging two different photos which can be seen down below. I have always loved digital art and composites before I even knew what they were and from learning so much over the past few months I decided to give it ago. It’s funny I never really discriminated between a shot straight from a camera and one that has been completely modified like the one above until I heard members of my photography discussing it and apparently there’s huge debate around the issue. To me I think a pretty picture is a pretty picture and that is all that there is to it. So whether you call what I produced above photography or digital art or something else, to me it’s pleasing to my eye and that’s what matters to me 🙂

To those that are fantastic at photoshop you are probably cringing at the sight of this, I’d say if you zoom in close you can see where the two photos merge and I really saturated the shot with an orange filter after but I think it adds a dreamy feel to it. Also, me being the ever so critical art teacher, the sun is in the wrong position and as a result the light source for the rest of the image is off but whatever… I’m still pretty happy with it considering it’s my first try 🙂

Different Angles

Image

This week I went for a few walks (since we had our two days of summer here in Ireland 😉 ) and I started taking some shots of nature…again. Since I take so many shots of nature I decided to try take photos at different angles and here are the results 🙂 They are not the most wonderful photos but it was fun to try something different 🙂

Glendalough

Image

A few days ago I finished up early in work and decided to head off to Glendalough in Co. Wicklow which is only an hour from my home. It’s funny how you take places that are so close for granted, I had not visited this place for years and I was so happy I went there again. It is an old monastery set in the stunning location of the Wicklow mountains. It is stunning there 🙂

Australian Adventures: The Beauty of WA

Image

Some of my coolest landscape shots were from the beginning of my trip just before it got incredibly windy and poured with rain. The weather did improve as the days went on but I do love the dark ominous clouds in the sky in some of these shots 🙂 I got to see so many fantastic places in WA while I was there and these photos don’t even begin to capture the beauty of the place but they might give you a bit of an insight 🙂

Here are a selection of shots I took while in Australia recently (for those that follow me, I am sorry for not posting for a while but I have taken loads of shots recently and I just didn’t have the time to upload them, but there will be a good few coming up soon 🙂 ).

This first set of shots from my recent travels are of different flora that I came across while in Oz, obviously there was unusual and wonderful flora everywhere I turned while there so these shots are only a very small selection of what I saw. 🙂

Since I was all photo’d out (it lasted for two days haha) the last time I posted, I decided to go back to what I love photographing, flowers and I found a few out in my garden 🙂 I wanted to try out different angles and shots and these are the best I got 🙂

Day 64: The End And The Beginning

Image

Today’s post will be my last photo as part of my attempt of my 365 Project. I found recently that the fun had gone and the project was more of a chore then anything else. So I decided to call it quits and instead start a new weekly challenge where I post a selection of shots, that are of a high standard, once a week (I might use a certain theme or technique to have a sort of cohesion between them). So to my followers that followed me originally for my 365 I apologise but I feel that the work I will produce now for my new project will be much better and I hope you will like it 🙂 I have learned so much over the past few weeks so now I am going to use that knowledge to really push my work more and to explore certain areas in more depth without feeling that I am repeating myself 🙂 Whooop bring it on, I am all excited about it again 🙂

Day 63: Doorway To Another World

Image

Today I visited Altamount House and Gardens in Tullow, Carlow. It is an old house from around the 18th century and the gardens are kept in that style too. It is a beautiful place full of flowers, trees, swans, peacocks and there is even a lake. Although I took shots of all of these things today it was this door that really took my fancy as it is so weathered and beaten and has such character. It’s crazy too think that once upon a time this door was shiny and new and lords and ladies would pass through it never thinking that one day any member of the public could be standing in the same spot. Back then it would have been pristine in condition with no stories to tell and no character but now the door looks like something out of a fairytale, it looks nearly make believe and it is a thing of beauty for all the wrong reasons. Reasons that the lords and ladies would have turned their noses up to I am sure! 🙂

Day 62: Try Again

Image

I really liked the shot I took yesterday and because, as I said, I am trying to get strong shots for an exhibition that is taking place in summer with my photography club, so I decided to try get another shot today. I don’t like this shot as much as the one I took yesterday but it was really good to use the same tools in Photoshop and to try create a similar look.
